It’s on my list…

New job. New country. New responsibilities. Lots of “To Do” lists.

Tip: Have a pretty work space.

I’m currently in a living space that is similar to a dorm room, which inhibits me from having photos or anything hanging on the wall. Otherwise, I would have polaroids everywhere, pretty lights & a fancy calendar on the wall behind my desk. My beta fish, Mako, also keeps me company to remind me to “just keep swimming”.

Having a nice, homey work space containing anything that makes you happy, will make it so much easier to think & not hate the fact that you are currently forced to adult (yes I just used that word as a verb – get used to it).

memory

I have a horrible memory. If I was a fish, I would be a blue tang & my name would be Dory.

Forgetfulness is not really an option at this point in my life, especially when I am moving to a new country & have a million things to do in preparation for that…

Steps of being a semi-successful “adult”:

  1. Make a list (or many, if you’re a perfectionist & an organization freak like me).
  2. Tackle your list one item at a time. Do NOT overwhelm yourself by trying to complete everything at once! Do one, MAYBE two things a day.
  3. Strike each item out when you’ve completed it (so satisfying). Helps you feel accomplished and productive! It’s the little things in life…

I guess this is what being an adult means, right? Organization, lists, remembering & responsibilities. Maybe that’s why I have a bad memory… Rebelling against adulting?

No need to rebel. It’s life! If we want to take on new adventures & conquer new things, we have to be prepared for that.

Here are my current lists!

To do:

  • Call and/or email family
  • Fill prescriptions
  • Vaccinations?
  • Passport photos for Visa
  • Apply for Visa (must get notarized – ask Zach)
  • Register with ROCA – need travel details first
  • Storage unit inquiry
  • Insurance (car & travel)
  • Research host country
  • Data transfer – laptops

Appointments to make:

  • Doctor
  • Dentist
  • Eye doctor – order contact prescriptions
  • Do I have time for a massage? Make time, you need it
  • Hair appointment (not urgent, but would be nice)

Things to Pack:

  • Clothes (lots of dresses & shorts)
  • Bathing suits
  • Sunglasses
  • Pictures (polaroids mostly)
  • Cameras – plural meaning ALL

Things to buy beforehand:

  • Polaroid film
  • Bathing suits
  • Shorts
  • Phone? (maybe buy upon arrival? – research)

Notice only 2 of those items are crossed off? It’s hard not to worry but it is essential NOT to. I am taking things one day & one item at a time in order to not get overwhelmed. When that feeling of helplessness hits us, THAT’s when we become unproductive.

Take breaks, have fun in between tasks & relax! Add THAT to your list! 🙂
